What you do

Underwater welders are talented trades people who can not only weld but can do so in challenging subsea conditions. Underwater welders inspect, repair and construct metal structures while diving or in underwater hyperbaric chambers . This can involve making repairs to the hulls of ships up to construction and maintenance of major offshore energy installations.





An Underwater Welder performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Carefully planning the welds prior to the dive
  • Plan and follow detailed checklists
  • Confidence working underwater with limited visibility
  • Commercial diving certification
  • Undergo a diver physical to ensure you are fit to dive




What you need

  • Experience and knowledge of welding techniques
  • Experience conducting underwater maintenance surveys is an asset
  • Confidence working underwater with limited visibility
  • Commercial diving certification
  • Undergo a diver physical to ensure you are fit to dive
