The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing mechanical systems and creating drawing packages for Bluedrop's simulation product group. The Mechanical Designer reports to the Senior Director, Systems Engineering. The Mechanical Designer will work on the improvement of Bluedrop's existing simulator products and working with a team to develop new simulation products.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Documenting design requirements
  • Developing design concepts in AutoCAD Inventor
  • Developing detailed part drawings and assembly drawings
  • Incorporating design changes based on internal and external stakeholder feedback
  • Preparing fabrication drawing packages and specifications for sub-contractor quoting
  • Working closely with fabricators and machine shops to ensure quality products
  • Inspecting fabricated parts and assemblies (physical configuration audits)
  • Participating in product assembly with the assembly team
  • Quickly diagnosing mechanical system issues and creating solutions in a timely manner.
  • Reporting, documenting, troubleshooting and resolving assembly issues
  • Following documented systems engineering standards and practices
  • Participating in R&D projects, as assigned
  • Following and enforcing safe work practices in the integration facility

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • College diploma (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development of drawing packages
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T callouts and tolerance stack-up is an asset
  • Knowledge of welding standards is an asset
  • FEA skills are an asset
  • Hands-on experience in assembling, and/or troubleshooting mechanical systems are an asset
  • Highly organized, flexible, deadline driven and detail oriented
  • Eye for detail and ensuring high quality deliverables
  • Strong writing and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to follow safe work practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to follow quality procedures
  • Must be able to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
