GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. is growing and has a new career opportunity for an experienced technical product owner who is passionate about software product development to our clients. 

  

As a Technical Product Owner, you work with business leaders and agile development scrum teams to prioritize product development, and ensure teams are delivering according to the product roadmap.  

 

You collaborate with key stakeholders across disciplines to understand the high-level product roadmap and then translate it into clear and prioritized stories for execution. You and your teams work on a highly technical, real-time sonar processing and display suite; you have the background to be able to understand an applied processing product and discuss features in technical depth with the development teams.  

 

As we work in a highly collaborative workplace to build and test our custom software, electrical, and mechanical sonar system integration in-house, this position is based primarily in our Dartmouth, NS office.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Product Ownership – build a comprehensive understanding of the current product and its product roadmap. Translate product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements and clear stories.  
  • Product Prioritization - Curate the project backlog to ensure your team is always working on the highest priority tasks, balancing the development of new features, iterations, bug fixes, and other internal tasks. 
  • Collaboration - Work with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders, including analytics, design/user experience, hardware engineering, and sonar operations experts. Partner with stakeholders and users across the organization to inform the product features and prioritization. 
  • Applied Agile Methodology - Work in an Agile environment and continuously review the business needs, refine priorities, outline milestones, deliverables, and identify opportunities and risks. Prioritize and maintain the sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing the requirements of stakeholders. 
  • Communication - Consistently communicate what your team is working on and releasing to partner teams.  Champion the accomplishments of your team to the rest of the company, ensuring that proper recognition is given.  
  • Documentation - Document the design to facilitate communication & collaboration as well as persistent knowledge capture. 

  

Qualifications 

Top candidates for this position will possess the following: 
 

  • A degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer, Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, including SCRUM and are a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM). 
  • At least 5 years of experience building systems as a Product Owner and/or Software Developer in an engineering environment. 
  • Proficient in Agile project management tools such as JIRA and/or Confluence.  
  • Experience working in Linux / Unix operating systems  
  • Preferred experience in C or C++ 
  • Preferred experience with applied algorithm development, physics, and / or real time processes

Security Requirements 

Candidates must be able to demonstrate they are eligible to apply for and maintain the Canadian Controlled Goods and Canadian Government Security Clearances. Specifically, candidates may be asked to show proof of living in Canada for the past five consecutive years and provide a criminal record check.
