Regional “Dual-Use” Defence Demands Bolster Enginuity Ranks
HALIFAX, NS – In response to the mounting demands of the region’s defence industry, Spryfield-based engineering firm Enginuity has appointed a new program manager to its ranks. Juri Worms brings to the team a uniquely diverse background spanning defence, aerospace, medical devices, advanced manufacturing, and even Hollywood special effects. The role will support Enginuity’s growing involvement in the “Dual-Use” technology space, which combines commercial and defence innovations in marine, aerospace and renewable energy. And reflects the company’s continued support of organisations such as NATO DIANA, Kraken Robotics, MDA, Qinetiq, Thales and DND.
Juri’s career includes work with DARPA-funded programs through ATAIR Aerospace in the United States, where he helped develop autonomous cargo parachute delivery systems capable of coordinating multiple high-altitude drops to land within tight tolerances. In that role, he combined hands-on engineering with field testing, often jumping alongside the systems to validate performance in real-world conditions.
Beyond defence and aerospace, he has delivered projects in medical technology and product development in Australia, including CNC programming, machining, and practical mechanical design focused on manufacturability, tolerances, and robust product performance. His experience also extends to the entertainment industry, where he spent two decades in New York and LA working in special effects for major film and television productions, including work on Jurassic Park, Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman, and Conan O’Brien.
“I’ve spent my entire career at the intersection of hands-on engineering and fast-paced, high-stakes projects, from defence innovation to medical devices to live television,” explains Juri. “What excites me about Enginuity is the chance to bring that breadth of experience to a team that thrives on complex challenges and diverse clients, and to help mentor the next generation of engineers so that hard-won practical knowledge doesn’t disappear.”
Originally from Münster, Germany, Juri has lived and worked around the world, including extended periods in the United States and Australia. Now calling Canada home, he is focused on contributing to Enginuity’s growth while helping younger engineers bridge the gap between academic concepts and real-world engineering.
